Colorado R-61 X-Ray Disposal and Scrap Removal
When a Colorado clinic retires a generator, tube, CR reader, or whole room, the state wants a Form R-61. Fix My X-Ray disables the machine, removes it, and supports the paperwork so the room is clear and the registration is current.
What Form R-61 covers
Colorado 6 CCR 1007-1, Part 2, requires the registrant to notify CDPHE when a radiation machine leaves service. The form is used when a machine is put in storage, disabled in storage, transferred, sold, traded, disposed of, or when the facility closes. Disabled in storage means the machine is made physically inoperable so it cannot produce radiation. A Colorado-registered service technician signs that work.
- Storage — the machine can still energize if it is plugged in. Registration fees still apply.
- Disabled in storage — the machine is made inoperable. Certification evaluations pause while it stays that way.
- Transferred, sold, or traded — the new owner is named on the form.
- Disposed of or recycled — the machine is made inoperable and the disposal company is named. It is electronic waste, not landfill trash.
- Facility closure — the location no longer has a machine.
What we do on the job
We come to the clinic, disable the machine, remove the equipment, and leave the room clear. Panel, tube, and generator handling are part of the work. After a film or CR to digital upgrade, the old equipment leaves with the same company that installed the new room. Call 720-600-3117. Office hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday. Emergency removal is available on request.
CDPHE publishes the R-61 form and the current guidance at cdphe.colorado.gov. The clinic files the form. We do the field work and the documentation that supports it.
Questions clinics ask
What is Colorado Form R-61?
Form R-61 is the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment disposition form for a radiation machine. A clinic files it when a machine is put in storage, disabled, transferred, sold, traded, disposed of, or when the facility closes. The rule is 6 CCR 1007-1, Part 2.
Who can disable a Colorado X-ray machine for R-61?
A Colorado-registered service company. Fix My X-Ray is a Colorado-registered X-ray service company. We disable the machine, handle the removal, and support the R-61 paperwork the clinic files with CDPHE.
Can an old X-ray machine go to a landfill?
No. Colorado treats X-ray machines as electronic waste. The machine has to be made inoperable, and the disposal company is named on the R-61. We handle certified removal and scrap so the clinic is not left with a hallway full of equipment.
